Glossary

Key terms and concepts used throughout BuyFaithful to help you understand our mission and framework.

Catholic Social Teaching (CST)

A body of doctrine developed by the Catholic Church on matters of social justice, poverty, and human dignity. CST provides a moral framework rooted in Scripture and Tradition that informs how Christians can engage ethically in economic life.

Subsidiarity

The principle that decisions should be made at the most local level possible. In business, this means supporting small, local enterprises and community-driven solutions rather than defaulting to large centralized corporations.

Solidarity

The commitment to the common good — recognizing that we are all responsible for one another. Solidarity calls Christians to support businesses that uplift workers, communities, and the vulnerable rather than exploiting them.

Dignity of Work

The belief that work is more than a way to make a living — it is a participation in God's creation. Businesses that honor the dignity of work pay fair wages, provide safe conditions, and treat employees as persons, not mere resources.

Pro-Life

A consistent ethic that affirms the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. In the context of BuyFaithful, pro-life businesses do not fund, promote, or profit from abortion, euthanasia, or embryonic research.

Fair Trade

A trading partnership that seeks greater equity in international trade. Fair Trade certified products ensure that producers in developing countries receive fair compensation, safe working conditions, and sustainable practices.

B-Corp

A certification for businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. While not specifically Christian, B-Corp values often align with stewardship and care for creation.

Health Sharing Ministry

A faith-based alternative to traditional health insurance where members share each other's medical expenses. These ministries operate on Christian principles of mutual aid and are often more aligned with pro-life values than conventional insurers.
